 Our History

In April of 2007 a group of friends met upstairs at the Jockey Club in Washington, Ga.,  the idea being to create an opportunity to reconnect with all those friends you would never get to see by sticking with the old class reunion paradigm.  This is how we came up with the name "Jockless Club."  I mean, we couldn't name ourselves the Jockey Club.  That would have been infringement.  The Jockeyless Club?  Naaa.

It was not the intent of the Jockless Club to replace class reunions.  Class reunions have their place and purpose.  But, stop and think about all of those friends of yours that weren't in your class.  How are you going to ever get to see them?  The answer?  The Jockless Club.

Over the years it become apparent that our name was so juvenile that many members couldn't bring themselves to even say it.  So, we tried the JC.  But, for obvious reasons, that doesn't sound right either.  After our meeting on April 11, 2009, one of our esteemed Emeritus members, George Rodrigues, casually used the word "jocularity" to describe what occurred at these action packed meetings.  Webster defines jocular as given to, characterized by, intended for, or suited to joking or jesting; waggish, facetious speech or behavior.  Obviously, "jocularity" is then defined as the state or quality of being jocular.   Perfect!!

So, the foregoing being said and duly appreciated, on the 19th day of April in the 2009th year of our Lord, the name of this powerful organization was changed by willful decree of the SAP to:

"The Jocularity Group"
